Move over, Tour de France—there’s a new crew in town, and they’ve got more life experience (and probably better stories) than your average pro peloton.
Five friends from Shaoguan, China, aged 40 to 68, just completed one of the world’s most brutal bike routes: the 4,000-kilometer Tibet-Xinjiang Highway. And yes, they did it on e-bikes. Before you smirk—try pedaling across 14 mountain passes, through howling winds, and over altitudes that leave gasping even for air… with a little battery-powered help.
Because why suffer like it’s the 1800s when you can suffer smart?
Welcome to the ride of their lives.

The “Sky Road”: Not Your Average Sunday Gravel Ride
This ain’t no bike path. The Xinjiang-Tibet Highway climbs over seven 4,000-meter peaks and another seven over 5,000 meters, including the jaw-dropping Jieshan Daba at 5,347m—so high up you’ll feel like you’re pedaling through the clouds.
Oh, and did we mention the unpredictable weather? One minute it’s sunshine and rainbows, the next it’s “why-is-the-wind-trying-to-push-me-back-to-yesterday.”

Views That Hurt So Good
The climb from Gambala Village (3,500m) up to Gambala Pass (nearly 5,000m) gained 1,500 meters in just 25 kilometers. Sounds fun, right?
But then—reward. The stunning Yamdrok Lake appeared, a blue so brilliant it looked like someone turned up the saturation on reality.
“Your eyes are in heaven,” said one rider, “while your legs are in boot camp.”

Trip Highlights
Day 4: Karola Glacier—where ancient ice meets modern grit.
Days 8–11: Himalayan lookout points. On a clear day, you can see four 8,000-meter peaks. Eat your heart out, National Geographic.
Days 17–25: Remote plateaus, sacred lakes, and the highest point of the ride—Jieshan Daban. This isn’t just geography; it’s a state of mind.
Days 33–42: The homestretch through the Pamirs, meeting local Tajik families, and cruising down the famous Panlong Ancient Road—a zigzagging descent so satisfying, they say “all your future roads will feel easy after this.”

May your tires always be full, your views always be epic, and your e-bikes never run out of juice.
