On November 24, 2024, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Road Cycling Race and the 15th National Games Road Cycling Test Event were successfully held across Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao.
The men’s individual race featured 67 professional athletes from 22 teams and one individual rider, representing mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao. The 230-kilometer course spanned all three regions, with segments including a 160.7 km Zhuhai segment (including a 60.6 km segment on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and a 45.2 km Hengqin section), a 55.8 km Hong Kong segment, and a 13.5 km Macao segment.
The race started at 9:00 AM from the Zhuhai Museum, passing through Macao, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, Hong Kong (where riders made a U-turn), the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone, and finally returning to the Zhuhai Museum. The route connected iconic landmarks across the three regions, including:
Zhuhai: Lover’s Road, Zhuhai Opera House, Zhuhai Fisher Girl, and Urban Balcony.
Hong Kong: Hong Kong Port Artificial Island, North Lantau Highway, Penny’s Bay Highway, and Hong Kong Disneyland, where a spectator area was set up for hundreds of viewers.
Macao: The newly opened Macao Bridge, the fourth cross-sea passage connecting Macao Peninsula and Taipa.
Shortly after the race began, heavy rain and unpredictable crosswinds challenged the riders, accelerating the fragmentation of the peloton. Despite the adverse conditions, the athletes maintained a high pace, with frequent attacks shaping the race. A strong breakaway group eventually formed and steadily built a lead over the main peloton.
In the end, Hao Ran (Inner Mongolia Team) secured victory with a time of 5:15:18. Miao Chengshuo (Shandong Team) finished second, while Wang Ruidong (Tianjin Team) claimed third place.
The event not only served as a high-level competitive race but also as a successful test for the upcoming 15th National Games, highlighting the seamless coordination and growing sports integration among Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao.
