Prestigious Cycling Event Comes to Guangming District
The 2024 Shenzhen Guangming International Road Cycling Race launched today in Shenzhen’s Guangming District, drawing professional teams and cycling enthusiasts to the city. The event features a circuit race around Guangming Science Park, showcasing both athletic excellence and the city’s modern urban landscape.
Professional riders competed on a 10.5-kilometer loop course, completing ten laps for a total race distance of 105 kilometers. The course design included three intermediate sprint points along the primarily flat urban circuit.
Race Action Delivers High-Speed Drama
From the starting gun, the peloton embraced the challenges of the flat urban course, pushing an impressive pace that saw average speeds exceeding 50 km/h during the opening stages. The intense competition created multiple breakaway attempts throughout the race.
The most significant move came when two riders from Fenglei Intercontinental Team and Lantu Intercontinental Team established a promising breakaway in the later stages. However, their advantage proved insufficient as the main bunch organized a determined chase.
Sprint Finish Crowns Multiple Jersey Winner
As the final lap bell sounded, the breakaway’s lead had dwindled to less than 25 meters, setting the stage for a dramatic bunch sprint. Hu Haijie from Shenzhen Xidesheng Intercontinental Team emerged victorious from the frantic final kilometer.
The talented rider achieved a remarkable triple victory, claiming not only the overall race win and yellow jersey but also earning the white jersey as best young rider and the green jersey as sprint points leader.
Teamwork Secures Victory
In post-race comments, Hu Haijie emphasized the crucial role his teammates played in his success. “My teammates provided incredible support throughout the race,” the champion explained. “After I took two intermediate sprints early in the race, they controlled the pace at the front, monitored breakaway attempts, and perfectly organized the lead-out train for the final sprint. This victory belongs to the entire team.”
The event demonstrated Shenzhen’s growing presence in the international cycling circuit while highlighting the strategic complexity and teamwork inherent in professional road racing.
