On the morning of May 1, more than 300 cycling enthusiasts from across China gathered in Qitai County, Xinjiang, for the “Rongqi Cup” bicycle race. Against a backdrop of blooming crabapple trees and vibrant spring scenery, riders set off from the highway interchange and raced along a 55-kilometer route toward the finish near Jiangbulake Food Street.

The event featured four categories: elite, men’s public, women’s public, and a recreational group. The course wound through picturesque villages and attractions such as Haitang Avenue, Zhangba Village, and Yaozhanzi Scenic Area, offering both a physical challenge and stunning views of the region.\
Local residents came out in large numbers to support the riders. Yu Xiaoqing, a villager from Zhangba, shared, “I was so excited to hear about the race. I came early to cheer everyone on. With the crabapple trees in full bloom, it’s a beautiful ride—I wish all the riders great results.”
Over 300 volunteers assisted along the route, providing directions, supplies, and safety support to ensure a smooth event.
After more than two hours of intense competition, Tursunjan Burliq from Urumqi took first place in the elite men’s category. He praised the course design and atmosphere: “The route had climbs and curves that made for a fantastic race. The scenery and crowd support were outstanding—even beyond my expectations.

Lu Jiaquan, a participant from Gansu, experienced Qitai for the first time. “It’s a beautiful place—from the snow-capped mountains of Jiangbulake to the blooming flowers everywhere. After the race, I’m looking forward to exploring more.”

By combining sport with local culture and nature, the race showcased Qitai’s charm and strengthened its appeal as a destination for athletes and travelers alike.
