Let’s be real: most of us aren’t pro riders. We’re weekend warriors—the heroes of Saturday morning group rides, the legends of the café stop. But can a couple of rides between Netflix binges actually keep you in shape?
Short answer: Yes, but… (you knew there was a “but,” right?).
Cycling’s beauty is that even a little goes a long way. You don’t need to live on the bike to enjoy it. But if you want to actually get stronger—not just survive the hills but attack them—then yeah, you gotta put in some work.

Here’s the deal:
If you’re riding just on weekends, you’re doing better than 80% of people. But your body is like that tub of ice cream in your freezer—it melts away faster than you think. By Wednesday, those weekend gains are already packing their bags.
So what’s the fix?
Do something—anything—on a weekday. A short run, some squats, even a brisk walk. You’re not trying to become Tadej Pogačar. You’re just telling your body, “Hey, we’re still doing this fitness thing.”
If you can sneak in one or two weekday rides? Now we’re talking. Suddenly you’re not starting from zero every Saturday. You’re building. You’re maintaining. You’re that person who actually looks forward to climbs (ok, maybe not).

But if you wanna race? Girl, get a coach. And a therapist. Kidding—but only kinda. Racing isn’t fitness; it’s a lifestyle. It requires daily dedication, structured training, and the ability to suffer gloriously before 9 a.m.
So can you stay fit with just weekend rides? Absolutely. Will you become a monster on wheels? Probably not. And that’s fine. The best ride is the one you actually enjoy.
