Rob Giletis, Founder and CEO of Factor Bikes, has reportedly stated that the brand’s sponsorship of the Israel–Premier Tech cycling team is unsustainable unless the team undergoes a rebranding and disassociates from the State of Israel.
According to a report from Cycling News, Factor has met with the team’s owner, Sylvan Adams, to discuss their partnership, the team’s name, and its national identity.
“No Rename, No Renewal”
Giletis conveyed a clear message to Cycling News: “I have told the team: no rename, no change of flags, and we will not continue our sponsorship.”
He elaborated on the business rationale behind this stance, emphasizing that the decision transcends personal beliefs about the conflict. “This is no longer a question of what is right or wrong. It has generated too much controversy around our brand, and my responsibility is to my employees and shareholders to provide them with the greatest opportunity to grow the company and make it profitable. We can no longer accept adding extra conflict or complexity.
Giletis further clarified that the move is a necessary brand protection measure. “This is no longer a personal issue of me supporting this or that. There are certain controversies around a brand that we simply cannot have.”
The Israel–Premier Tech team, which competes at the professional level, has been a visible presence in the WorldTour. Factor Bikes has been a key equipment sponsor, supplying its high-performance bicycles to the squad.
The team, co-founded by Adams, has prominently featured Israeli nationality and symbols as a core part of its identity since its inception. A significant rename and shift in national representation would mark a fundamental change for the organization.
The ultimatum from a major sponsor like Factor places significant pressure on the team’s management to reconsider its branding strategy amidst ongoing geopolitical tensions. The outcome of these discussions will determine the future of their partnership.
