Stunt Show Kickstarts Community Cycling Event

The “South of Mountains, North of Waters – Xianyang’s Beauty” 2025 Shaanjian Shiyijian Cup Xianyang Lake Cycling Tour launched on the morning of October 7th at Xianyang Lake’s Unity Square.

At 8:20 AM, the opening ceremony commenced with an impressive bicycle stunt performance that captured the audience’s attention. Riders demonstrated exceptional skills including track stands, rear wheel slides, and 360-degree rotations, executing each movement with seamless precision. When one performer achieved a difficult “stand” on the front wheel, the crowd responded with sustained applause, celebrating both the sport’s excitement and the vibrant energy brought to this community event.

Diverse Participation in Open Format

Embracing an inclusive “no age limit, no bike type restrictions” philosophy, the event attracted 800 participants ranging from cycling enthusiasts to tourists and family groups. The gathering featured various bicycle types including road bikes and leisure cycles, demonstrating broad community engagement in healthy outdoor activities.

Rain Fails to Dampen Spirits Along Scenic Route

At 8:40 AM sharp, the starting signal sent riders departing from Unity Square in orderly waves. The previously quiet roads quickly filled with the whir of turning wheels and enthusiastic cheers. Despite increasingly rainy conditions, participants maintained high spirits, pushing through the wet course with determined effort.

“This was my first time joining a cycling event with my child,” shared Ms. Wang, who completed the course with her 10-year-old son. “Even with the rain, my son insisted on finishing the entire route. Encouraging each other through this challenge felt more meaningful than any medal.”

A university student from Baoji added, “Xianyang appeared especially fresh and beautiful in the rain. The volunteers cheering along the route created such a warm atmosphere that I’ve completely fallen for this city.”

Course Highlights Urban and Natural Beauty

The 13.5-kilometer route began at Xianyang Unity Square, guiding riders to Xianyang’s Second Bridge where they could admire the majestic eastward flow of the Wei River. Participants then transitioned to the southern lakeside road, continuing toward the finish line at Wuhuan Square while enjoying the “clear waters and green banks” of the ecological corridor. The course connected Xianyang Lake’s core scenic areas with urban landmarks, allowing riders to appreciate both natural landscapes and city development.

Comprehensive Support Ensures Safety

Multiple aid stations and medical points lined the route, with volunteers providing water and directions while professional medical staff remained on standby throughout the event. Despite slippery conditions from the rain, the well-organized event recorded no major safety incidents.

By 9:03 AM, the first participants began arriving at Wuhuan Square. After brief rest periods, riders collected completion medals and custom event packages. The subsequent award ceremony featured a prize drawing that energized the crowd.

Event Promotes Active Lifestyle and City Appeal

Organized by the Shaanxi Provincial Sports Bureau and Xianyang Municipal People’s Government, with support from multiple sports associations and management centers, the event aimed to help participants and spectators appreciate the harmony between urban development and natural environment while raising ecological awareness and promoting public fitness.

Participants spanning different regions and age groups noted that cycling in the rain presented additional challenges, yet the experience provided both physical benefits and deeper appreciation for Xianyang’s unique character.

In recent years, Xianyang has developed multiple high-quality cycling routes alongside Wei River ecological restoration projects. Through this “sports + culture + tourism” model, the city continues to energize its “event economy,” allowing participants and spectators to experience both the natural landscapes “south of mountains and north of waters” and the urban charm declaring “Xianyang’s beauty.”

Today, Xianyang increasingly uses public sporting events to integrate ecological beauty, cultural heritage, athletic enjoyment, and low-carbon principles, revitalizing this ancient Guanzhong city through the turning of bicycle wheels.
